It has been revealed today by Sky Sports’ Keith Downie that Rafa Benitez has personally invited a Newcastle fan battling cancer to meet him at the club’s training ground – six months on from a letter the Spaniard sent wishing him all the best before his operation.
Not only is it great news to see Chaz on the road to recovery, but it’s moment that makes you realise what a class act Rafa really is.
As highlighted by Sky’s North-East correspondent Keith Downie below, cancer battler and avid NUFC fan Chaz has been battling pancreatic cancer and was sent a letter by the NUFC boss six months ago to wish him a speedy recovery.
Chaz has now completed post-op chemo and has since been invited to the Newcastle United training ground today by Benitez himself:
I interviewed this gentleman @UKCHAZ at St James’ Park six months ago. He brought with him a letter he was sent by Rafa Benitez as he battled pancreatic cancer. This, for me, sums up everything that’s just brilliant about Rafa Benitez, epitomising why he as connected with not only the club, but the city so incredibly since his arrival on Tyneside just over two years ago.
He cares and goes that extra mile to show his support and respect for the city and all those who support NUFC.
A lovely act of kindness from Rafa – a man I couldn’t be more proud to see as manager of our beloved football club.
The little gestures can make the biggest of differences. Top class by Rafa Benitez. #NUFC https://t.co/FukMyr2Q20
