NUFC loanee Ivan Toney may have been described as an ‘outstanding talent’ by Scunthorpe boss Nick Daws this week, however Rafa Benitez could be set to cash in on the 22-year-old this summer according to the Chronicle.
The striker endured a difficult loan spell with Wigan over the first half of the season, regularly finding himself coming on from the bench, however he’s found some form since making the January switch to Scunthorpe.
He’s netted 4 goals in his last 6 games for the Irons and was the match-winner at Charlton over the weekend,
That being said, his future on Tyneside appears uncertain, despite his up-turn in form, with the Chronicle suggesting Benitez will ‘listen to offers’ for him this summer.
Toney still has a few years left to run on his current NUFC contract, but it perhaps says a lot that he’s never done enough to be invited to train with the first team since Benitez took charge..
He very nearly scored this wonder-goal over the weekend at the Valley, but these sort of efforts may need to start flying in if he’s to turn Rafa’s head before he returns for pre-season this summer:
Remember that ridiculous long-range volley Robin Van Persie scored at Charlton for Arsenal?
NUFC's @ivantoney24 very nearly recreated it at the same ground for Scunthorpe over the weekend! ??#NUFC #AFC
