Alan Shearer slates Sunderland after hearing what their players did after relegation was confirmed

Alan Shearer has had his say on Sunderland’s relegation to League One following Saturday’s defeat to Burton at the Stadium of Light – criticising their players after hearing that not ONE member of the squad spoke to the press to apologise after their fate was confirmed.

The Mackems looked like they may just earn a precious 3 points with just 5 minutes remaining on Saturday, being 1-0 up against Burton, however Darren Bent’s equaliser (87th minute) and a 92nd minute winner for the Brewers ended up sending them down.

It was an amusing day for us NUFC fans but another awful one on Wearside, made even worse by the fact not one player in red and white came out and addressed the fans to apologise after the game.

A regretful North-East reporter Craig Hope confirmed this, however Alan Shearer had no sympathy:

What a spineless end to a dreadful season at the Stadium of Light.
