North-East journalist sends message to NUFC fans after news of Mike Ashley’s new asking price

Sky Sports revealed last night that Mike Ashley has now upped his asking price to “£380-£400m” – a move that has left the Telegraph’s North-East correspondent Luke Edwards feeling as though this could be the end of any potential takeover at NUFC this summer.

Sky also stated yesterday that Amanda Staveley would have to rekindle her interest and begin talks with Ashley ‘in the next few weeks’ if she and PCP are to stand any chance of a securing a takeover at the club (with a deal needing to be done in good time for essential summer spending).

This, combined with Ashley allegedly upping his asking price by another £100m, has clearly left Luke feeling as though Mike Ashley could be sticking around for another season yet – something us NUFC fans did not want to hear in response to Sky’s claims last night:

A penny for Rafa’s thoughts if this does turn out to be the bcase, but one thing I will say is that Mike Ashley is known to have contacts as Sky. With that in mind,  I refuse to take their ‘takeover updates’ yesterday as fact – even if they do fill me with very little hope.

I’d like to bet that £350m is his actual asking price and this has all been another attempt to drum up interest.

Who knows, but what is true is that Amanda Staveley needs to get a move on and back up her words if she really is serious about taking over at St James’ Park.

  1. if this is the case why has Ashley refusing to take one of the three offers already tabled 350 million back in December

    Because they had relegation clauses..

He clearly wasn’t prepared to deal with all these caveats and clauses put into Staveley’s offers.

  3. One does question the long term investment side of life. If Rafa can make the Toon into a Man City\Liverpool and remain in charge surely on the value of the two mentioned clubs we could say 380 million is safe bet.

  4. We’re safe now tho. So any relegation clause is void.

  5. surely Staveley has the cash , and NUFC would still be a good buy at 400m.

she’s going to have to swallowher pride cos Ash isnt going to.

  6. I’ll say this again , Ashley will not sell Newcastle no matter what he’s offered , it’s all a pr stunt and that’s all its ever been

  7. The man is an utter charlatan, he is utter utter scum. He will NEVER sell the club man – no intention, he`s played this game for a decade. Someone should really just do away with him – I fucking hate the *******

Sorry, I see what you’re saying now. Fair point – although I bet there’s other clauses and caveats (remember that Champions League one?!)

  9. Just let him have the club and when things go tits up which they will let’s hope no fcuker comes in and buys it
Then maybe he will think I should have sold it if he stays there will be no investment and Rafa will leave on a personal note I think he will sell

  10. Bottom line is that Amanda Staveley did not place actual funds into a holding account that Ashley could see. Following that, the brothers who were providing the ‘funds’ for the takeover distanced themselves from the takeover leaving Staveley with a bid to buy the club without visible funds to do so.

Now Ashley is apparently raising his asking price to £350-400 million due to the safety of the 3 year TV money. Good luck wit finding a buyer for that price

  11. I’ve now lost all hope that we will get rid of him until he dies and recipients of his estate sells it.

No Salah is that good that I’d bet we could have had him for about £10m at one stage but would only offer £9m

She used the lawyer that Ashley knows very well and he himself used to purchase the club. They made the offers on her behalf and Freshfields would not do that without having proof of funds from her. Putting money in accounts to prove funds isn’t necessary. It’s like Jabba asking a potential buyer to buy a box for ten years ffs!

  13. 100% expected. I can’t understand some people raging on about Asley’s “greed”. I don’t like him, but he’s a business man and his aim as we’ve seen for the last decade is profit. If we are now in a stronger league position than last December, of course the price will rise, as does the guaranteed income the position dictates. Just let’s get it done. HWTL.

  14. Surprise, surprise. The Chrinicle reporting we did have a chance to sign Salah but refused to pay the £500k loan fee!
