Exclusive reveals the Premier League club set to make a big move for Rafa Benitez

According to an exclusive from the Daily Star, Leicester City are lining up a move to bring Rafa Benitez to the King Power Stadium  – suggesting it would be ‘hard’ for the Spaniard to turn them down IF Mike Ashley failed to sell the club this summer.

As with most stories from Sunday papers, it’s wise to take these claims with a pinch of salt, however this is the sort of link is to be expected with Benitez’s future still yet to be decided.

After several poor results (including a 5-0 defeat at Palace over the weekend), the Star claim Claude Puel’s future is in ‘serious doubt’ – and their owners now want Rafa to replace him in a bid to achieve ‘regular top-six finishes’.

I can’t see it happening, but Leicester are fast becoming the sort of side Benitez is striving to create at Newcastle. With ambitious owners who are happy to spend money in a bid to create a side capable of competing, they are exactly where Rafa wants us to be.

If Ashley fails to back Benitez properly this summer and the signs are that he’s not going to sell up either, then we’re bound to see clubs like Leicester queuing up to take him on.

As the Chronicle’s Andrew Musgrove mentions above, Mike Ashley’s next move is massive if we’re to stop Rafa finding pastures new this summer.

Benitez clearly wants to stay, but it’s now over to you Mike!
