The agent of CSKA Moscow midfielder Aleksandr Golovin has confirmed that both Newcastle and Southampton are interested in signing his client this summer.
This isn’t a player we’ve seen linked to NUFC at all over the past few windows (and there’s been hundreds linked!), but his agent, Alexander Manyakov, has said today that we are ‘showing interest’ in the 21-year-old talent.
Before we take a closer look at the £20m-rated Russian international, here’s an interesting line from his agent today:
“He needs to leave. As far as I know, there are offers from Premier League clubs but not from the Top 6.
“I know that Southampton and Newcastle are showing an interest but he has a contract with CSKA.”
Golovin has been capped 17 times by Russia’s senior team (despite being just 21) and can operate as a central midfielder or attacking midfielder (with the latter tending to be his preferred position).
He has 6 goals and 5 assists for CSKA this season, including 2 goals and 1 assist in Europa League ties with Lyon and Arsenal in recent months.
Who knows whether this is true or just an agent drumming up interest ahead of this summer’s World Cup, however it’s fair to say we do lack creative spark, so an attacking midfielder will be high on Rafa’s wish-list this summer.
