Newcastle ‘weighing up’ summer bid to sign striker with 17 goals this season – Report

Newcastle are ‘weighing up’ a summer move for Angers striker Karl Toko Ekambi according to the Sun – the Cameroonian striker who has scored a 17 times in Ligue 1 this season.

The 25-year-old has impressed in France over the past two seasons, with 17 goals and 5 assists being an admirable tally given Angers currently sit just 6 points above the relegation zone in Ligue 1.

It’s claimed that Everton, Brighton and Villareal also hold interest in the forward who Angers could cash in on this summer:

“Newcastle, Brighton and Everton have watched the 25-year-old hit double figures for goals playing for Angers in the French top flight.

“They are weighing up a £20million move for the ex-Sochaux forward, who has also attracted interest from Villarreal in Spain.

“Angers are set to cash in this summer after two seasons at the club where he has impressed over two seasons.”

It’s on to take with a pinch of salt (this is the Sun after all), however NUFC are bound to still have their eye on the French market – a league where bargains can still be picked up (even if some of our most recent french imports flopped).

The £20m asking price seems a little high , but his rise to form with 14th place Angers is very impressive – especially when you consider that only Cavani, Neymar, Falcao and Thauvin have outscored him in France this season.

Here’s him in action – just incase he does turn out to be a genuine target of ours this summer:
