The in-form winger who ‘impressed’ NUFC scouts on Sunday – summer bid imminent?

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle had scouts present to watch recently linked winger Garry Rodrigues on Sunday – and he went on to impress, scoring in Galatasaray’s top of the table clash with Besiktas.

Several Turkish papers have been pushing this story ever since the January window, however the Chronicle have since suggested that our interest in the winger – with scouts having been sent to check him out on several occasions since the turn of the year.

As confirmed by Miliyet, both Newcastle and Lyon scouts were present to watch the Cape Verde international during Sunday’s Istanbul derby – a game Galatasaray ran out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from former Man City midfielder Fernando and Rodrigues himself.

It was a well taken goal, taking his tally for the season up to to 8 goals and 9 assists, and it’s been said since (see Chronicle’s live blog here) that Newcastle scouts were left impressed once again.

Turkish media claim we’ve had £6m and £7m bids rejected by Galatasaray over the past two transfer windows, but, based on the amount of times we appear to have matched him this season, it looks like we may be about to test their resolve once again this summer.

One to watch this summer. Here’s his goal in front of NUFC scouts on Sunday:
