According to reports in Austria, Newcastle United had a scout present during the Europa League semi-final between Red Bull Salzburg and Marseille on Thursday night.
Austrian outlet Laola1 confirmed that a club scout was present at the Red Bull Arena, however they refused to state which player(s) we were watching. They did insist this was NOT the first time a Newcastle scout has watched either side this season.
With Rafa Benitez having been credited with interest in a few players from either side over the last few months, here’s a few from either side who we may have been there to watch:
Valon Berisha (Red Bull Salzburg)
The Chronicle confirmed back in March that the 25-year-old midfielder was ‘someone Newcastle have followed for 18 months’ – so he will almost certainly have been watched. He has 13 goals and 11 assists this season and has shone during their run to the Europa League semi-final.
It looked like he impressed a few NUFC fans during the game too!
Watching the Europa League semi-final betweem Salzburg vs Marseille and alleged #NUFC target Valon Berisha looks a proper little player. Some superb set piece deliveries, great energy and some right foot on him!

Morgan Sanson (Marseille)
Last November, ‘Scouts In Attendance’ claimed we had scouts to watching the Frenchman in Marseille’s 1-1 draw with Bordeaux.
The 23-year-old midfielder has 11 goals from midfield this season and is another we may be continuing to track in a bid to bring some added creativity to the club this summer.
André-Frank Zambo Anguissa (Marseille)
French outlet La Provence claimed we were ‘closely monitoring’ the Marseille midfield general, so he’s another that has been linked to us over the past few months – although this one is a little more of a tentative link.
Still, with Colback and Saivet set to leave this summer and Diame entering his 30’s, another holding midfielder could be on the cards.
Newcastle United will tonight send a scout to the game between RB Salzburg and Marseille. There have been no reports who #NUFC will be monitoring tonight, but this isn’t the first time they’ve scouted Marseille this season. [Laola1]

Time will tell who we were actually watching, but these three (especially Berisha) could be ones to watch this summer.
