Benitez issues update on future talks, Islam Slimani & the TWO ruled out of Watford tomorrow

Rafa Benitez has been speaking to the press ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Watford, and has provided update on his talks over a new contract, the Islam Slimani situation and the team he could play away at Vicarage Road tomorrow.

In summary, there’s no news on contract talks, Slimani looks set to stay and train for at least another week and changes are expected at Watford – with Clark and Atsu ruled out.

Here’s a full round-up of what he’s had to say, starting with his response to question over his future after more talks with the club this week:

Rafa on his future and the summer transfer window

“We are still talking, but no news. I haven’t set a deadline for when I want talks to finish, but as soon as possible. No news but we are still talking so we have some time”

“It is best to do things quickly, but do not be worried about the length of the window. In the past, PL clubs had so much time. We have plenty of time if we do things right”

Rafa on Slimani staying and training after his three-game ban

“I was talking with him.

“He was keen to stay & train, so we are happy with that given that we have 2 games.

“We will talk again next week”

Rafa on injuries and potential changes to his team for Watford tomorrow

“I was tempted to repeat the team, I was then tempted to change players, but now we will make maybe a couple of changes to give people an opportunity.

“Clark & Atsu have problems with injuries.”At this stage of the season, you have to be careful with them. The rest are fine”
