Newcastle United have joined Wolves and Spurs in the race to sign Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand this summer according to the Express – however it’s claimed the Saints will only sell if they are relegated to the Championship at the weekend.
We were linked with a move for the England international back at the start of April, and those rumours have no remerged as we enter May and the final week of the season.

I expect him to move on even if Southampton do stay up, but I’m not convinced he’ll end up at Newcastle this summer.
He’s a good player and one who would add quality and much needed competition to the left-back spot, but there’s a few big reasons why this one seems unlikely..
Our priority this summer will be signing a proven striker, getting Kenedy on a permanent deal and possibly adding more attacking flair in and around the number 10 role, so I can’t really see us blowing £20-£25m on a 28-year-old left-back?
With Danny Rose set to leave Spurs this summer, I could also see him ending up at Tottenham – a club we couldn’t really compete with if their interest does prove to be genuine.
