After their Premier League fate was sealed over the weekend, it has emerged that Stoke City star Xherdan Shaqiri has a relegation release of just £12m.
While Benitez’s focus will be on bringing Brazilian winger Kenedy back to the club this summer, he may have on eye on the Swiss international’s situation.
It must be said that Shaqiri’s attitude and work rate is highly questionable, making me question if he’s a player Rafa would even consider, however the opportunity to sign a player of his quality for just £12m is something he may be reluctant to pass up.
With 8 goals and 6 goals this season he’s been Stoke’s top scorer and leading creator, so there’ll be plenty queuing up for him – especially when you consider the bargain he represents in this day and age.
He may not seem a ‘Rafa player’, but no one can deny that he possesses the sort of match-winning ability our team sorely lacks; as was proved once again during Wednesday night’s frustrating defeat at Wembley.

Excellent talent and for twelve million , a steal.
Though Benitez rejected Mitrovic who had a good season subsequently, the reason being I believe he was a loose cannon or not a team oriented player, which has also been mentioned about Shaqri,, after all football is a team game, no ?
