According to the Times, David Moyes is planning a clearout at West Ham this summer and will look to sell both Andy Carroll and Javier Hernandez – two strikers Rafa Benitez hasbeen linked with moves for over the past 12 months.
Let’s start with Hernandez, the striker Alan Shearer claimed Benitez had ‘ready to come in’ over the summer, only for West Ham to beat us to the punch.
He’s played a bit-part role this season and done as well as some expected he would, but with 8 Premier League goals this season, he’s managed more than any NUFC player this season – and he’s started just 16 times.
Then to Carroll – the man who is regularly linked with a return to Tyneside. His injury records are a real concern, but the Chronicle did admit just last week that Benitez is a ‘big fan’ of the striker.
With us desperately lacking firepower up top and Benitez admitting today that he’s looking to add some experience to his squad this summer, moves for either could be explored this summer.
