According to TEAMtalk, Rafa Benitez will look to sell Joselu this summer – the Spanish striker who’s scored just 4 goals all season since arriving from Stoke last August.
This comes from their NUFC ‘exclusive’ which also claims we’ll look to sign Tammy Abraham AND Kenedy from Chelsea and offload Aleksandar Mitrovic too – stating we’ll be in the market for TWO new strikers this summer as a result.
It’s been a difficult season in front of goal for Joselu, but there’s only so much both we and Rafa Benitez could’ve expected from a £5m striker – especially when £15m can struggle to even get you a good one in this day and age.
Here’s a snippet from TEAMtalk’s piece, stating that both Joselu and Mitrovic will be up for sale this summer – with Abraham earmarked as a potential replacement:
“Newcastle are set to jettison Aleksandar Mitrovic and Spanish flop Joselu, meaning they want two new strikers, with Benitez targeting a deal for Abraham.”
We’re short of options up top, but offloading the Spaniard may be the best options for all parties.
He just hasn’t looked up to it at this level, and, if we’re going to start matching Rafa’s ambition and improve our squad, he’s one of the first players who wouldn’t make the cut.
The one issue we’ll have is finding a buyer. With all due respect, I’m not sure who’d be stepping forward to sign him this summer based on the season he’s just had.
