According to an exclusive from Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb, Newcastle United are one of two Premier League clubs looking to sign Torino right-back Lorenzo De Silvestri this summer.
The report states Torino boss Walter Mazzarri (formerly of Watford) is keen to keep him in Turin after an impressive season in Italy, but it’s claimed that both ourselves and Leicester are both keen to prise him away.
Standing at 6ft 1′, De Silvestri is a big unit who’s said to be strong in the air, however he’s a player known for his attacking instincts too – having bagged an impressive 7 goals and 4 assists from right-back during Torino’s 9th place finish in Serie A last season.
He turned 30 today and has played almost 300 games in Serie A, so perhaps (if true) Benitez is looking to add an experienced right-back to his ranks to compete with the improving but equally naive DeAndre Yedlin.
Manquillo remains an option down both flanks, but he’s failed to convince, so it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Rafa wants to bring in some much needed experience and competition down our right hand side.
