According to the London Evening Standard, Tottenham are set to rival Chelsea for ‘key target’ Jamaal Lascelles this summer – however it’s claimed that it’ll take an offer ‘in the region of £45m‘ to sign him.
It was suggested yesterday by the Northern Echo that Mike Ashley may be willing to listen an offer of £30m (the figure Everton are reportedly willing to pay), but this new figure suggests the club value him much higher – and rightly so.
In all honesty, I wouldn’t be entertaining offers at any price. Yes big money could, in theory, be given to Benitez to improve several areas of the squad, but Jamaal Lascelles is the heartbeat of this current NUFC side. His influence on and off the pitch is irreplaceable for me.
Back to today’s story from the Standard, here’s a snippet from their piece today:
“Tottenham are ready to battle it out with rivals Chelsea for Newcastle defender Jamaal Lascelles.
“Standard Sport revealed in February that the 24-year-old is a key target for Chelsea this summer to strengthen the backline.
“Lascelles has been earmarked as a potential replacement, although they are keen on Ajax’s Holland international Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt as well.
“Everton are also in the running and their new coach Marco Silva wants to agree a transfer before the World Cup.
“The Merseyside club plan to make an opening bid of £30m, but it is believed it will take an offer in the region of £45m to acquire Lascelles.”
Like any player (so they say), does Jamaal Lascelles have his price or would you be keen to see the club reject all offers – even if some HUGE ones arrived?
