Reporter reveals the fee NUFC would demand for Ayoze Perez as European giants show interest

Despite confirming interest from Napoli and Real Sociedad, the Chronicle have insisted that Ayoze Perez is keen to stay at NUFC – suggesting it would take an offer in excess of £18m to prize him away from St James’ Park this summer.

The 24-year-old has frustrated some sections of supporters with his performances from number 10 role in recent seasons, however he’s come to life in 2018, ending the campaign as our top scorer on 10 goals.

Here’s what Mark Douglas has had to say on the matter today, confirming interest from abroad but suggesting that Perez is more than happy to remain on Tyneside:

“Napoli and Real Sociedad are chasing Ayoze Perez – but the player wants to stay on Tyneside and tilt for the Spain squad under Rafa Benitez.

“Reports in Spain claim the player is valued at £18million but the truth is that United would want more than that for a player who is a central part of Benitez’s plans.

“And pleasingly, Perez is very happy at Newcastle and believes that he can progress into the Spanish international squad if he continues to plot his current path.”

With this in mind, it looks like someone would have to pay over £20m to prise him away from St James’.

He’s clearly deemed a key player by Benitez, and it’s good to hear Perez has no intention of leaving this summer, however there’s always that feeling that Mike Ashley would be more than happy to cash in on ANY of our players if the right offer arrived.

Great to see Perez back in form and happy on Tyneside, but the idea of Serie A giants Napoli being interested and a feeling we’d always sell at the ‘right price’ is a slight concern for Ayoze Perez fans – even if it’s positive to hear that he plans on staying.
