Newcastle ‘hijack’ Sevilla’s deal to sign Spanish midfielder – Reports

According to reports in Spain, Newcastle have attempted to hijack Roque Mesa’s permanent move to Sevilla – making contact with Swansea over a potential move for the midfielder.

This comes from Spanish outlet ‘ABC de Sevilla’, who claim that Sevilla have the first option to sign the 29-year-old after his recent loan from Swansea – however they claim that Newcastle, Villarreal and Fulham have all made last ditch attempts to sign him.

The defensive midfielder joined Swansea last summer for £11m after an impressive season in La Liga with Las Palmas, however he went on to make just 11 Premier League appearances before being loaned to Sevilla in January.

It seems that they’re intent on signing him on a permanent deal now he’s returned to Swansea, but, if Spanish reports are to be believed, so is Rafa Benitez!

It’s an interesting one. He’s rated highly in Spain (hence the £11m move to England), but he made little impact at Swansea. Maybe Rafa reckons he could get the best out of him?

You have to be kidding , no thanks

Seems a bit of an odd one given how he struggled at Swansea – although quite a few of their fans say he was never given a fair chance by Clement.

Reckon he’ll favour a return to Spain although I bet Rafa knows him well. Was meant to have been brilliant in La Liga in 2016/17
