Exclusive claims NUFC could take huge risk to sign Portuguese international this summer

According to an exclusive from TEAMtalk, Newcastle are interested in signing Sporting Lisbon winger Carlos Mane this summer.

The 24-year-old was highly-rated in Portugal, having played for his country at every level from U-15 to U-21, however he’s had a disastrous last year.

He had bagged an impressive 6 goals and 9 assists in just 19 games during a loan spell with Stuttgart during the 2016/17 season, but he’s not kicked a ball since last April after undergoing a serious knee operation.

The story from TEAMtalk discusses potential moves for several of Sporting’s stars set to leave on a free (including William Carvalho and Gelson Martins), but claims that it’s Carlos Mane that is interesting NUFC – with him being one of the few Sporting players who hasn’t tried to terminate his contract.

Maybe Rafa feels he could unlock his untapped potential, although it does seem an incredibly risky deal to do if there is any truth in this.

I suspect he wouldn’t cost much at all – and that may be one of the main reasons we could be considering him – but he’s facing a real challenge to get back to full fitness and form after over a year out.
