‘Mitro to become the next Moussa?’ – An intriguing theory ahead of the Serbian’s World Cup debut

A fan written piece by Richard Johnson

The big summer tournament is now here and we all know how players values are effected.

With Serbia’s Aleksandar Mitrovic being Newcastle’s only representative and his form for Fulham assisting their promotion back to the Premier League, could his World Cup form for Serbia either help change Rafa’s mind or see his value sky rocket once again?

Mitro struggled to get into the team last season, with Gayle and Joselu being Rafa’s preferred options to lead the line off Ayoze Perez. That being said, both struggled to do what strikers are paid to do – actually score goals.
I know Fulham were playing in the Championship, but does Mitrovic’s recent form (and potential to continue that in Russia) give Rafa a headache or just the potential to receive a bigger fee for him this summer?

In January I would’ve said that getting our money back on Mitrovic (£13m) would have been good business (especially when Brighton offered just less than £8m back then), yet his value now is touted at £20m – and that’s just after a string of goals in the second tier.
For me he’s worth  £25m right now given the sort of fees quoted in this day and age. Why not.

Mitrovic arrives at the World Cup on the back of a hat-trick for Serbia in a warm up game. Yes the opposition (Bolivia) looked pretty awful, but it’s an international hat-trick – also making him the first player to score three for them in one game.
We saw Sissoko go from zero to hero with France at the Euro’s two years ago, with his incredible tournament earning him a shock £30m move to Spurs – so could we see Mitro do something similar this summer?

Will Mitro be the next Moussa. For the sake of NUFC, I really hope so.

  1. For the sake of Ashley and his pocket I hope he has a stinker at the World Cup.i really like Mitro and should be our No9 but for Rafa to get 25M to spend of him he would want to win the golden boot n sell for 100M.
