According to the Daily Mail, Stoke City have lodged a £10m bid to sign Dwight Gayle after placing the 27-year-old at the top of their wish-list this summer.
interestingly, the story claims that the striker will be allowed to leave this summer – however I’d imagine that will only be sanctioned IF we sign replacements. I also suspect we’ll be demanding a little more than £10m.
Here’s a snippet from Simon Jones’ latest piece for the Mail:
Stoke have offered £10million for Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle.
The 27-year-old will be allowed to leave this summer and has been at the top of Stoke’s wishlist.
Manager Gary Rowett is looking to pair him with Benik Afobe to form a prolific partnership though Stoke may have to increase their bid.
For me, a £10m bid should be rejected.
Benik Afobe cost them £12.5m just a week ago and the likes of Britt Assombalonga cost Boro £15m last summer – so surely Gayle is worth more to a team like Stoke desperate to bounce back at the first attempt?
After all, he has a superior Championship record to both, with his 23 goals being pivotal during our 2016/17 promotion season.
Would you sell Gayle and, if so, how much for?
not enough for a player who will nearly guarentee goals in the championship.
