It has been revealed in a recent piece by the Chronicle that Newcastle are ‘working hard’ on deals to bring in summer signing number two – revealing that two players from Ligue 1 and one from La Liga are currently being looked at.
With Martin Dubravka our only signing so far (and an easy one to complete at that), frustration is growing amongst NUFC fans and rightly so – with a lingering feeling that Benitez is not going to be backed once again.
The Chronicle claim that Rafa has been handed an initial budget of around £40m, with that set to be topped up by player sales, however Lee Ryder confirmed today that we are STILL yet to lodge a big for a single player.
It’s worrying, but a recent piece by Mark Douglas did say the following, admitting that we’re working hard on deals and looking at two players from France and one from Spain:
“United talent spotter Steve Nickson is working hard on deals and Newcastle are understood to be looking at two players in Ligue 1 and a target in Spain as they look to refresh their squad.”
It’s hard to say who this may be, but France and Spain are two leagues we are bound to be looking at this summer.
It’s guess work, but here’s a few players who’ve been linked from both leagues over the past few weeks and months:
Ligue 1: Jean-Philippe Mateta (Lyond striker) Allasane Plea (Nice striker), Thiago Maia (Lille midfielder), Samuel Grandsir (Troyes winger), Alphonse Areola (PSG goalkeeper), Nicolas Pepe (Lille winger),
La Liga: Willian Jose (Real Sociedad striker), David Lopez (Espanyol defender), Pione Sisto (Celta Vigo winger), Gabriel (Leganes).
