Despite confirming that Newcastle were ‘very interested’ in signing him just a few days ago, Valon Berisha looks like he won’t be signing this summer after all – with Lazio having agreed a fee of just £7m to sign the Red Bull Salzburg star.
The Chronicle have regularly admitted that he’s a player we’ve scouted over the past 18 months and the player himself confirmed our interest over the weekend, however we’re in serious danger of missing out on him if the latest news from Italy proves to be true.
According to Sky’s Italian reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, Lazio have reached an agreement to sign him for just €8m (£7m) – a fee that seems like peanuts for a player of his quality.
Lazio have reached an agreement with RB Salzburg for Valon Berisha for a reported fee of €8 million, according to @DiMarzio.

Here’s what he said when asked about our interest over the weekend:
“They’ve been following me for a long time. There is an interest there, but there is nothing on the table that I have to decide on yet. England is the dream and we will see what it will be like.”
Failure to make any sort of attempt to sign Berisha here really would sum up our summer so far.
We’ve scouted him for 18-months, he’s confirmed our interest and admitted it would be a ‘dream’ to play in the Premier League, we lack creativity, Rafa wants another number 10 and he’s available for just £7m.
The mind boggles as to why we’d not bother making a move to sign a player who ticks so many boxes, yet, in typical NUFC style in the Ashley era, it looks like we’ll ‘miss out’.
Let’s we make a late move to sign him before Lazio do. It would make so much sense, yet I have so little faith that we actually will.

Where does Olly get all this doom and gloom from. Every day we get either copy and paste material but most reporting is fake news.

Olly, don’t pay any attention to the opium sniffers – you are right to preach doom and gloom – we are under the oppressive rule of a capricious, petulent billionaire, who has no respect for club or fans.
Berisha would have been a good addition and may have bee enough to make a serious difference, but he is probably better off with someone else – we only have 12 months of Rafa left and then the doom and gloom will make your latests offerings look like you’ve been on happy pills.
