Rafa Benitez reveals why it was an ‘easy decision’ to sign Ki Sung-yueng – Sounds like a bargain

Rafa Benitez has had his say on Ki Sung-Yueng following confirmation of the South-Korean’s arrival at NUFC, stating that his Premier League experience, character and captaincy at international level made it an ‘easy decision’ to sign him.

The midfielder is a player we’d not seen even linked with a move to Newcastle at any stage over the summer, however a deal has clearly been quickly wrapped up since Korea’s group stage exit from the World Cup this week.

Here’s what Rafa’s had to say to after confirming the free agent signing the former Swansea midfielder (quotes via NUFC.co.uk) :

“I’m pleased to welcome Ki to the club.

“He is a player with lots of Premier League and international experience and it was an easy decision to bring him here.

“He is the captain of his country, a good character and he will be a good addition to the squad.”

After watching him a few times during his spells with Celtic, Sunderland and Swansea, it was always clear he had an air of calm and quality about him in possession, but it’s also positive to hear how Rafa values his character, experience and leadership qualities.

He could prove to be a solid signing – especially on a free.

Let’s hope this is the first of many.

  1. Now that we have signed someone – particularly someone we haven’t even been linked with before , we’ll stop this ridiculous “we haven’t even made a bid for anyone yet” nonsense.
