Stoke City manager gives the game away when asked about £15m move for Matt Ritchie

When asked about their rumoured interest in Matt Ritchie, Stoke City boss Garry Rowett has admitted that he is the ‘the type and level of player’ they’re looking to sign this summer.

Both Stoke and Middlesbrough were linked with a £15m move for the winger yesterday and the newly appointed Stoke boss has already been questioned about their alleged interest.

Here’s what he’s had to say in response:

“We’ve got a very varied target list out there and I’ve always said the same, when you’re linked with players they are not always true… but often some of them are.

“We want the level of player we are being linked with. That’s the type and the level of player we are trying to bring into the club.”

The words of a man who’s done anything but distance himself from a move for Ritchie?

The Chronicle have since confirmed Stoke’s interest in both Ritchie and Gayle, however they insist that it would take a ‘sizeable bid’ to sign either this summer.
