Sky Sports are claiming we’re in talks over a move for Nice striker Alassane Plea and are ‘serious’ contenders to sign him despite having initial offer of £27m turned down.
Now, while the links to a striker close to £30m are clearly exciting, it is always worth considering that that with Mike Ashley at the helm there could always be an ulterior motive to these reports, especially on Sky.
Sky Sports has become the mouthpiece of Ashley and the only outlet he speaks to. They of course ‘leaked’ the failed takeover of PCP on a daily basis and the relationship between Ashley and Sky does mean reports like this are quite rightly taken with a pinch of salt by many fans.
Some fans have even highlighted that today is the final day existing season ticket holders can renew their tickets and are putting two and two together – and I can’t blame them.
Some coincidence that mind.. ? pic.twitter.com/M7o0hlXSi0

It wouldn’t be like Ashley to release exciting transfer links to boost ticket sales – would it? With the price rises of tickets too, a ‘move’ for a £27m striker would come in handy, that’s for sure.
Playing devil’s advocate a little there but it is hard not to be too skeptical after the last 11 years under Ashley.
Let’s all hope Rafa wants Plea and the club are actually backing him to bring him in – here’s hoping it moves forward this week.

Every new bid etc, you read is just speculation, or even completely ****. When you see the player holding a shirt photograph at SJP. That is the only time to believe and even then ? Thanks
