According to freelance Wolves journalist Tim Nash, Newcastle are now ‘in the hunt’ to sign Manchester City Oleksandr Zinchenko – despite Wolves having agreed a fee to sign the highly-rated 21-year-old.
He’s a midfielder by trade, but the versatile Ukrainian operated at left-back on several occasions for Manchester City last season, playing 14 times in all competitions under Pep Guardiola.
It was reported over the weekend that Wolves had agreed a £12m deal (rising to £16m) for Zinchenko, but the same man who reported that (Wolves reporter Tim Nash) is now claiming that we are ‘in the hunt’ to sign him:
Zinchenko, 21, is still to decide his future, with Newcastle also in the hunt for the Ukraine international. He wanted to talk to City boss Pep Guardiola after training today before making a decision.

If this is to be believed, it seems as though he may not be speaking to Pep Guardiola before deciding whether he should remain at Man City or discuss potential moves to Newcastle or Wolves.
It’s a transfer story out of the blue, but sometimes these are the ones that end up materialising – with Ki’s free agent arrival being a prime example.
It sounds like Wolves may have the edge here (I’m not sure we’d splash £16m on a player who doesn’t seem a priority for us right now), but it’s definitely a new one to watch.
If hes so highly rated, why are they letting him go.
