NUFC tipped to make unlikely move for winger if Townsend deal fails – Makes no sense at all

According to the Sun, Rafa Benitez will turn his attentions to Aston Villa winger Albert Adomah if a deal to bring Andros Townsend back to the club fails to materialise.

It’s the Sun for a start, so we’ll take this with a pinch of salt, however this one really doesn’t add up at all. Here’s why:

Any deal to sign Townsend seems like it’ll only be possible if we cash in on Ritchie and use those funds to bring the Palace winger back to St James’ Park.

If we can’t agree a deal with Palace then surely we’d just keep a hold of Ritchie – not sign a 30-year-old Championship winger who’s played a handful of times in the top flight

Rafa would only sell Ritchie if he felt he could be replaced with a superior player who’d improve our first team. Adomah would not be that player, so this just feels like a non starter.
