Rafa Benitez now ‘listening to offers’ for NUFC winger – Report

According to the Mirror, Newcastle will now listen to offers for Rolando Aarons – with recently relegated West Brom said to be one of several clubs considering a bid.

The 22-year-old has showed glimpses of promise over the years, but injuries and a failure to break into Benitez’s first-team have seen those hopes fade considerably over the past few years.

He spent the second half of last season on loan with Serie A struggles Hellas Verona, however he made little impact in Italy, starting only a handful of games and failing to register a single goal or assist.

Here’s a snippet from the Mirror’s latest update on the winger, confirming NUFC’s plans to cash in this summer if the right offer arrives:

“Newcastle will listen to offers for Rolando Aarons this summer with West Brom among his admirers.

“Relegated Albion are considering a move for the talented winger but have other options too.

“Aarons, 22, is an England U20 international who showed great promise breaking into Newcastle’s first team in 2014. He has made 18 Premier League appearances scoring twice and having one assist.

“But his progress has since been stalled by injury and he was loaned out last season to Hellas Verona in Italy.”

I had high hopes for him a few years ago and, at one point, I genuinely felt he may be good enough to make an impact at Premier League level, but that dream is fading more and more as time goes on.

He’s still young and probably just needs a big break to get his career back on track, however I’m not sure he’s going to get that from Rafa Benitez anytime soon.

A move to West Brom may make sense – although I would be tempted to loan him out first before committing to any sale?
