Benitez names the signings he wants Ashley to secure – Exciting & worrying news for NUFC fans

Speaking about the signings he wants to see happen between now and next month’s deadline, Rafa Benitez has confirmed his wish to sign ‘two or three offensive players’ and some defensive cover.

It was a clear message to Mike Ashley (see quotes in full here), with Benitez practically admitting that he’s still needs another four or five deals to be done between now and August 9th – which is just 25 days away.

It’s an exciting prospect, with this appearing to be exactly what we need before the start of the new season, but it’s a real worry to hear that he’s expecting a raft of key signings to be completed with just over 3 and a half weeks left to do business.

Given our typically sluggish approach to transfer negotiations and Ashley’s inability to pay the going rate, are these signings attainable in the time we’ve got left?

We’ve already had a few months to do business and have managed to sign three up until this point (one loan, one free, one release clause), so unless Ashley and Charnley suddenly decide to buck their ideas up and get deals done, I’m struggling to see how we give Rafa what he wants – and needs.

A striker will not come easy and there’s not long left, so I fear that this deal alone may take up the majority of our time between now and August 9th.

Get that done quickly and who knows, but we have plenty players to sell and several keys deals left to do – which won’t come easy if our budget is as limited as some are suggesting.

Fingers crossed folks. It’ll be a real turnaround and a potentially exciting season if Rafa gets the ‘two or three’ attackers he wants, but I can’t help but worry that we’ll ‘run out of time’ if we don’t start making moves soon.

  1. Olly – sorry mate but I don’t believe it’s Ashley who will be getting these players – I don’t think Ashley really gives a ****. I think it’s Charnley who’s in possession of this list – which to me is just as worrying, coz I don’t believe the bloke is up to the task – I don’t think he’s ever been up to the task. But he’s cheap, won’t ask too many questions and won’t give Ashley too many headaches.

True, I get that. Although the issue is that it’s still Ashley who’s the man who says yes or no – or at least his advisors who are doing their best to keep the books tidy at NUFC.

Charnley may be slow , but surely this is because of all the middle men between him, Benitez and Ashley? Feels like there’s no cohesion, with Ashley so distant while he keeps the club tied to chains.

Feels like deals are always made so complex and always questioned – Which is baffling now we’ve got a proper manager in place who knows what he’s doing.

  3. Olly – I suppose he is responsible by proxy – in that Charnley and the rest are there by his appointment.
I’ve said it many times before, but not recently. He has taken a step back after it not working out the way he’d hoped. The problem has been that he then rarely appoints the right people – in terms of best qualified to run his club. Those that have been there – such as Carr and Rafa – he chosen not to listen to (I say Carr because I think he was better than the restriction placed on him).
The rest – Wise, Jimenez, Llambias, Kinnaer and Charnley – were they brought in after a rigorous application process, appointed based on past experience and success – absolutely not. These people were put in place because they are Ashley’s men. They operate(d) not with the clubs best interests in mind, but keeping their rich mate happy – coz he’ll get the drinks in or pay for the meals.

So yeah mate, I sort of stand corrected. Whilst it’s not Ashley the individual stood there working on Rafas new signings (as the headline suggests) – it is still very much ‘his men’ – and god forbid they pester him on his holidays.

  4. I really feel sorry for Benitez, Who would put up with the constant stream of lies that are provided by Ashley and co? The man has closed all of the Newcastle outlets in the area and all of NUFC’s merchandise is sold through SD, Ashley has often stated that Benitez can have all monies generated by the club, TV money aside, position in the league aside that money has still failed to reach Rafa.
The psychology that Ashley is applying is to reach out to all of the supporters who plan to buy the new tops which he hopes will be bought through SD outlets, at £65 the new shirts are the most expensive in the league, but I am curious as to what percentage actually goes to the club, Rangers fans have boycotted SD as the club only recieved 7p in the £, if the fans believe in Ashley and play his game the club will only generate £4.50 for each shirt.
Benitez is no fool, I will be saddened to see him go, even Pardue was wise enough to work out Ashley’s tactics, and left.
The only thing that Ashley understands, it’s not the fans, it’s not even football the only thing that motivates Mike Ashley is MONEY, if we want to get rid of the greedy b*****d we need to starve him of his cash flow. I have heard the fans say this is our club not Ashley’s, they need to wake up and smell the coffee, Ashley owns the club, controls the club and has no intention to sell the club, because too many of the true fans will always provide Ashley with the funds to carry on owning the club. A strong statement is needed to make Ashley sit up and ask what has happened, that statement can only be seen in his turnover.
Benitez will probably walk at the end of the season that won’t bother Ashley he will find another coach who will believe what lies Come from Ashley’s mouth and so it continues………………another 10 years……. 👿
