Exclusive claims NUFC will make £6m move to sign Championship star

According to an exclusive from the Sun’s Alan Nixon, Newcastle are set to make a £6m bid for Bristol City star Joe Bryan – the highly-rated left-back who was one of the Championship’s top performers last season.

This isn’t the first time we’ve been linked with a move for Bryan and although our alleged offer of £6m seems a little low and unlikely to be accepted, he is entering the final year of his contract at Bristol City.

He’s 24, bagged a handy 7 goals and 3 assists in 48 appearances last season and can operate both at left-back and as a left-winger – with this versatility said to be one of the reasons Rafa is keen to do a deal.

Here’s a snippet from Alan Nixon’s ‘exclusive’:

“He (Benitez) is poised to offer around £6m for Bristol City left-back Joe Bryan.

“Toon spies think the 24-year-old defender can do well in a couple of roles and give them cover.”

Whether there’s any truth in these claims remains to be seen (this is The Sun after all), however a £6m deal for Bryan would be a brilliant piece of business for a player regarded as the best full-back in the Championship.

Paul Dummett is our only senior left-back following the release of Jesus Gamez and Massaido Haidara, so a potential cut-price deal for a player of his talent would make a lot of sense – even for Ashley, who may no doubt see him as a player with high sell-on potential.

Hopefully this one is true. Rafa needs more options at full-back and Bryan has always looked a very handy little player whenever I’ve watched him.

  1. Ashley has put out some mis-information that blames Rafa for not having the money to buy in a striker – unbeleivable stuff, but typical Ashley – says he would give Rafa 100M if he re-signed – but doesn’t explain that that is over the life of the new 3 yr contract, that’s just 33M each year, he doesn’t explain that that has to cover all wages, fees and other operating expenses for the club in each of those years, either, which wouldn’t leave very much of a transfer fund at all, and he isn’t actually giving control over the money to Rafa, it would still go through the convoluted process that exists now, but the bit that gets me the most, is that this transfer fund isn’t Rafa’s money, it doesn’t benefit Rafa personally, it is to strengthen Ashley’s NUFC team, to position Ashley’s advertising signs in front of the European cameras, to increase the value of Ashley’s asset. By implication, Ashley is trying to blame Rafa for putting his integrity above Ashley’s greed and making Ashley behave in such a spiteful, foolish and deceitful way.
See out the year, Rafa, then get your life and career back. You’ve endured more than enough. Thank you for the three good years, it’s wakened us up to how we have been abused for the last decade.
