According to the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder, Newcastle are now ‘in with a shout’ of securing the loan signing of Liverpool striker Divock Origi – despite him rejecting Rafa Benitez in favour of a move to Wolfsburg last summer.
The talented Liverpool striker is back on Merseyside after a loan spell in Germany and has been linked with a potential move to St James’ Park over the past few weeks – with him likely to be deemed surplus to requirements by Jurgen Klopp ahead of the new season.
With Rondon said to be Rafa’s top target, it remains to be seen as to whether we’ll actually make a move for the Belgian, however Lee Ryder confirms Rafa’s interest here – stating that we’re ‘in with a shot’ of bringing him in on loan for the second time over the last year.
Here’s what he said when asked about our alleged interest in the 23-year-old during a recent Q&A on the Chronicle’s live blog:
“Origi is a loan option.
“He didn’t want to sign for NUFC last season and went to Germany instead.
“But United will be in with a shout this time.”
Divock Origi is a loan option for Newcastle United. Last season he didn't want to go to Newcastle & chose Germany instead, but this season Rafa Benitez's side will be in with a shout for him on loan. [@ChronicleNUFC] #LFC pic.twitter.com/yS211JJsJK

It would make sense for all parties, with him needing game time and Benitez in desperate need of fresh attacking firepower, however it’s a little disheartening to hear that he actually rejected us last summer.
Would you like to see Benitez bring him in on loan – even if it was at the second time of asking?
