According to reports in Turkey, Chelsea centre-back Kurt Zouma has rejected the chance to join Newcastle United – and will instead seal a loan move to Turkish giants Fenerbahce.
Turkish papers are dubious at the best of times, but there’s a big flaw in this story..
He would NOT have been able to have even joined us on loan in the first place, with us unable to sign another player from Chelsea on a temporary basis. Why? Because loan rules state that you can only sign ONE player on loan from a single club – and we already have Kenedy.
Don’t get me wrong, Zouma would’ve been a very handy addition after news of Florian Lejeune’s serious knee ligament injury (which looks set to keep him out for 6 months) but it seems like a non starter – and a poor bit of journalism on their part!

The big centre-back was on loan at Stoke last season and is now back at Chelsea, however it looks like he’ll be moved on this summer.
A permanent deal is the only way we’d be able to sign him, however he’d cost well in excess of £10m and I really don’t see us spending that much on a centre-back who’ll only actually be needed for the next 6-8 months.
He could’ve been ideal if a loan was possible – with him and Lascelles and potentially monstrous pairing – but this one’s a non starter; even if he did prefer us over Fenerbahce!
