Despite confirmation that Jonjo Shelvey wasn’t involved in Newcastle’s opening training session in Braga this morning, both Lee Ryder and BBC Newcastle’s Mattew Raisbeck have confirmed that his absence is ‘nothing to worry about’.
Fortunately, they insist that he is NOT deemed an injury concern by Newcastle United, with him expected to return to the main group and train as normal this evening.
Here’s confirmation from both NUFC reporters currently out in Portugal:
Jonjo Shelvey isn’t training with the main group this morning but we’re told that’s nothing to worry about. Dwight Gayle, who’s being strongly linked to West Brom as part of a deal to bring Salomón Rondon to #NUFC, IS training pic.twitter.com/t4BcAFjYDM

This comes as a reassuring update after news this morning that he played no part in the first-team’s opening training session in Portugal today – especially after we’ve just lost Florian Lejeune for the vast majority of the season.
Shelvey played just over an hour of Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Porto, being replaced by Ki-Sung-Yueng at the 62nd minute mark.
Exactly why he missed out this morning is not yet known, but it’s a relief to here he’s fine.
Wa he doing his hair 😯
