According to leading Belgian outlet HLN, Club Brugge winger Anthony Limbombe has been told not to train with the first-team ‘in anticipation’ of a potential move to Newcastle United.
With the signing of another winger seeming far from a priority right now, this one seems a little hard to believe, however this does come from one a ‘very reliable’ source in HLN (as confirmed below by The Chronicle’s Mark Douglas).
Whilst claims that he could be arriving in Atsu’s place seem wide of the mark – with Huddersfield’s alleged interest having been denied – this does make you wonder if we actually hold genuine interest in Limbombe.
Here’s what HLN have had to say, followed by the thoughts of The Chronicle’s Mark Douglas on Twitter:
“They can now no longer train with the group. In anticipation of a transfer, they maintain their condition through an individual program.
“Each of them now hopes that a solution will soon come. Limbombe is already in the picture at Newcastle, but the clock continues mercilessly. The transfer market will close in England in eight days.”
Limbombe sits out training as #nufc continue to be linked in the very reliable HLN.
Am sure they've checked him out. But think they have other priorities.https://t.co/2OROYmbSuK

Limbombe is 24 and has recently been called up to the Belgian national squad by Roberto Martinez, having caught the eye for Brugge with 6 goals and 7 assists last season.
With the signings of Ki and Schar coming from out of nowhere, has a deal for Limbombe been lined up on the down low by Benitez?
Time will tell, but I’m not convinced Rafa will be spending what’s left of his ‘limited budget’ on another winger..
Limbombe didn't train with Brugge today ahead of a possible move to #nufc https://t.co/ivmiTDiGv0
