Fresh twist confirmed over deal for West Brom’s Salomon Rondon

According to both The Chronicle and the Birmingham Mail, Newcastle and West Brom have now resumed talks over a deal which could see Salomon Rondon finally sign at St James’ Park before next Thursday’s transfer deadline.

They claim that Dwight Gayle is ‘very much’ back in the frame to go the other way at join West Brom as part of the deal, with Newcastle clearly looking to move the NUFC number 9 on in a bid to secure Benitez’s top striker target in Rondon.
As confirmed just a few days ago, the Venezuelan’s £16.5m release clause has now expired, however West Brom may be tempted to come to some sort of arrangement given he’s out of contract next summer and turns 29 in September.
Here’s a snippet from the Birmingham Mail’s piece today, confirming the deal could be ‘back on’ despite talks ‘stalling’ earlier in the week:

‘Newcastle and West Brom are back in talks over the potential transfer of Salomon Rondon.

‘Reports in the North East claim the West Brom striker is Rafael Benitez’s main target – but the Toon’s hopes of a cash plus Dwight Gayle deal had seemingly stuttered due to the striker not wanting to drop down to the Championship.

‘That saw a break in talks between the two clubs, but now reports suggest that the talks are back onthe table.

‘Lee Ryder is Newcastle United reporter for our sister title the Chronicle Live , he claims that Dwight Gayle is still very much part of the negotiations.

‘The Daily Mail report the same news that Gayle is now very much back in the frame for a switch.

‘The two clubs now hope to get the deal concluded before Thursday’s deadline.’

Let’s hope this one can be wrapped up as soon as possible.

He may not be everyone’s ideal choice up top, but he’s a handful, far more suited to Gayle in a lone striker role and, most importantly, is clearly a player Benitez feels would improve our first-team.

Fingers crossed!
