Alan Shearer & Rob Lee’s interesting reaction to Adam Armstrong’s NUFC exit – Do you agree?

Alan Shearer believes it is ‘great news’ for Adam Armstrong that he has now completed a permanent move to Blackburn – whilst fellow NUFC legend Rob Lee has stated how ‘amazed’ he is that the 21-year old wasn’t given a chance to NUFC.

Given our desperate need for a new striker and his recent call-up to England’s U-21 set up, some hoped this would be the summer the Geordie youngster was finally going to be given a chance to shine at Newcastle.

Rafa Benitez has clearly seen enough, however, instead decided to cash in after Blackburn’s offer of £1.75m (rising to £3m) – a decision Lee hopes we don’t ‘live to regret’.

Here’s both Shearer and Lee’s reactions after his permanent move to Ewood Park was made official this afternoon:

The fact that Shearer calls it ‘great news’ makes me wonder if he knows this was a move he had to make for the sake of his career.

After four loan moves in the last three years, it was about time a decision was made on his long-term future.

The question is, was selling him the right one?

It’s one we may live to regret, but I’d question if he really has done enough to convince Rafa. After all, he only actually delivered during loan spells in League One, being yet to prove himself in the Championship never mind the Premier League..

  1. I agree with both the legends. Agree with Al that it’s a good move for Armstrong coz he’s a bit in limbo going out on loans all the time. But I also agree with Rob that there is a missed opportunity to give him a chance – I don’t even feel like he was given a real chance in pre seasons.

Best of luck to the lad, who knows, his career path could shadow Shearers and we welcome him back one day.
