NUFC reporter provides update on Salomon Rondon’s availability for Saturday’s game with Spurs

According to The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder, Salomon Rondon has an ‘outside chance’ of starting Saturday’s opening day of the season clash with Spurs – also suggesting that Rafa may look to get 60 minutes out of the big Venezuelan.

Having featured in just two of West Brom’s five pre-season friendlies over the summer – playing little over an hour of football in wins over Barnet and Barsnely – it’s fair to say Rondon will not be 100% match fit.

That being said, Lee Ryder reckons the new number 9 could be in line to start, suggesting Rafa may hope to give him an hour of action against Spurs this weekend:

Here’s what he’s had to say when asked if it’d be Muto, Rondon or Joselu starting up top during The Chronicle’s Q&A:

‘I think Rondon has an outside chance of starting.

“Muto has trained a lot less after seeking the paperwork he needs overseas in recent days. Joselu is the most match ready player, but is he going to frighten the life out of Spurs? Rondon’s power could be the perfect answer for United.

‘NUFC might hope to get 60 minutes out of Rondon’

Hopefully we’ll see both Muto AND Rondon at some point on Saturday.

As Lee Ryder alludes to, Joselu is the most ‘match ready’ of the three – having started the vast majority of our pre-season friendlies – however it’s fair to say home fans inside St James’ Park would feel a lot more excited about Saturday’s game if they saw one of our two new strikers in Rafa’s starting line up.
