Good news – Journalist claims NUFC are now ‘close’ to agreeing deal for Argentinian international

Some potentially positive news for Rafa Benitez, with Alan Nixon now claiming that an agreement is now ‘close’ between Swansea and Newcastle over the signing of Argentinian international defender Federico Fernandez.

Up until this point, it had been reported that we were unwilling to meet Swansea’s £10m valuation, with news from Wales confirming earlier today that we’d had a bid ‘flatly rejected’ – however it sounds like a compromise may have been found.

Swansea are believed to be keen on moving on some high earners and the player himself has recently spoke out about his desire to play at the ‘highest level’, suggesting he could be keen on being reunited with Benitez – a manager he played under during their time together at Napoli.

Here’s what Alan Nixon has said about the deal in the last few moments, suggesting a deal is now close:

“Looks like a Fernandez agreement can be reached and a deal sorted fast.

“Benitez frustration over. Online tale shortly.”

Fernandez has played 32 times for Argentina and has made over 100 Premier League appearances for Swansea over the past four seasons.

Fingers crossed folks.
