As confirmed by Sky Sports’ Keith Downie (and the picture above), Argentine international Federico Fernandez has now arrived on Tyneside to have his medical ahead of a £6m move from Swansea.
Time is now running out for Benitez to sign a much needed left-back, but the arrival of Fernandez will come as a relief – with Florian Lejeune likely to miss out for the entire season following his cruciate knee ligament injury over pre-season.
Here’s a clip of Sky’s Keith Downie confirming the 29-year old’s arrival on Tyneside, claiming a fee was officially agreed between the two clubs whilst he was onboard a flight to the North-East:

The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder has also backed up these claims, stating that an ‘announcement should follow’ on his arrival before 5pm’s deadline:

Good signing? In the circumstances, yes, but it’s too little too late once again from NUFC.
Less than an hour left to now sign a left-back..
