Rafa Benitez sends strong message to frustrated NUFC fans

Rafa Benitez has sent a message to Newcastle fans following Saturday’s disappointing 2-1 defeat to Arsenal at St James’ Park, urging the Toon Army to stay ‘United’ – insisting that we are much stronger when everyone sticks together.

It’s been an incredibly tough start to the season, with four of our five league games so far coming against the league’s top 6, however that does not hide how poor we have been at times – with many highly unimpressed by our 0-0 draw at Cardiff and our cup defeat at Forest.

Rafa has come in for some criticism this weekend – with many questioning his starting line up and the substitutions made in the second half – however he has urged fans to stick together and get behind the team:

“I think the fans realise why we are where we are and then our position.

“So I don’t think the players have to be worried about pressure, because the fans have been really good.

“They are clever enough to know the best way possible to go forward is to continue supporting the team, and if the players work hard like in the first half (against Arsenal), that’s something the fans will appreciate.

“It’s very clear, Newcastle – United. When we are united, we’re stronger. It’s just the only way for us.”

“Obviously, we have to start winning soon, because that will give us more confidence,”

Rafa is not wrong here – although some fans will argue that it’s hard to get behind a team that didn’t look all that interested in the second half on Saturday.

It’s hard to be upbeat at the moment, with things on and off the pitch far from perfect, but we have to stay with them.

With the return of Rondon and Shelvey likely to give us a boost and some slightly more ‘winnable’ fixtures to come, let’s hope things turn around for us soon.
