Joey Barton trying to sign ex-Newcastle & Sunderland duo after taking both on trial at Fleetwood

Joey Barton has taken ex-Newcastle United defender Ryan Taylor on trial with Fleetwood – and has admitted that there could be a position for him to sign permanently after impressing both on and off the pitch.

Joey Barton takes ex-Newcastle & Sunderland duo on trial at Fleetwood – & he could sign both

The full-back has also been joined by former Sunderland winger Ross Wallace on trial at the club, with it looking like Barton could sign both for his League One side.

Taylor was recently released from Indian Super League champions ATK (despite joining them at the back end of last year), and looks close to completing his return to English football.

Here’s what Barton had to say when asked if he’d sign them both following recent trials:

“We are going to discuss with them where we think there is a position for them.

“Both lads have been very good in the dressing room and on the training pitch. They have had fantastic careers and you want to see that desire and that hunger.

“After all they have achieved in the game, they have both shown they still have a desire and hunger to do things in their career.”

Barton played in the same Newcastle side as Taylor, with the pair both starting in our 1-0 Tyne and Wear derby win at the Stadium of Light back in 2011 – a game which was famously decided by a Ryan Taylor free kick!

He may of missed Fleetwood’s trip to the Stadium of Light earlier this month, but let’s hope he signs and rediscovers his scoring touch against the Mackems when they meet for the reverse fixture in March next year.
