After confirmation that Newcastle scouts were present in Benfica’s Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich last week, reports in Portugal have now confirmed that we were watching highly rated Benfica goalkeeper Odisseas Vlachodimos.
The 24-year-old is believed to be one of the most highly-rated young goalkeepers in the world and it seems we are one of several clubs tracking the Germany U-21 international.
This comes from Portuguese publication ‘Record’, with this all adding up after Newcastle’s name was included on the official list of scouts attending last week’s opening game of the Champions League group stages:

The big question is, do we really need another goalkeeper?
With Martin Dubravka, Rob Elliot, Karl Darlow and Freddie Woodman already on our books, this seems like the last area that needs reinforcing – especially when Dubravka has been so impressive and Woodman is a top class youngster himself.
Yeah – let’s have ANOTHER goalkeeper. Forget about a striker.
