Ex-NUFC striker facing one-year ban from football after failing drugs test

Former Newcastle United and Man Utd striker Giuseppe Rossi could be facing yet another major setback in his career, with the Italian facing a one-year ban after testing positive for a banned substance.

The 31-year old was loaned to Newcastle in the summer of 2006, scoring just one goal in 13 appearances before returning to Manchester United.

He went on to have successful spell with Villarreal, scoring over 80 times in just shy of 200 appearances for the La Liga side, however his career has been blighted by injuries ever since – and it might be about to get worse for him

He’s currently without a club after being released by Genoa in the summer, and he could be facing another year out of the game.

Italy’s anti-doping agency ‘Nado Italia’ announced earlier this week that Rossi will not stand trial next week after testing positive for an ‘eye drug that can be used as a masking agent’.

  1. Sorry Olly, but this really pisses me off… why is it that every time a player does something wrong, no matter how many other teams he has played at since, he is always and “Ex-Newcastle” player, but when a player does well, he is an Ex-England or Ex man unite or ex spurs… The press (and it seems you too now) are always taking every opportunity to disrespect our club… it’s the same with other players like Joey Barton or Nile Ranger… If Joey does well as a manager, he’s an ex-City player, but if he knocks someone out in the street, he’s an ex Newcastle player… You are one our own Olly, this is disappointing from you. Rossi played about 3 games on loan …
