According to Scouts in Attendance, Newcastle have been left ‘impressed’ once again after sending scouts to watch Olympiakos midfielder Mady Camara in action last weekend.
This is not the first time it’s been reported that we’ve sent club officials to watch the midfielder, with Scouts in Attendance confirming last month that we were left ‘impressed’ by Camara during their Europa League Qualifier against Burnley.
#nufc scout watched 21yo Olympiakos MF Mady Camara again last Sunday in 1-1 draw with AEK Athens…#vfb & #empoli scouts also there
Reports say he's close to agreeing new contract, just pay rise no change to 2023 expiry, but it could include a release clause amount https://t.co/evVR3T4UnY

Scouts in Attendance is a Twitter database that has established itself as a reputable source when it comes to club’s scouting activities, so it seems like he is definitely a player the club are watching.
He’s just 21 – so he would fit into Ashley’s buying policy – and is also a player in a position where we lack depth, with Mo Diame being the only out and out defensive midfielder at the club at present.
Whether anything comes of this remains to be seen (with NUFC the masters of showing ‘interest’ but making no bids), however Camara certainly seems to be someone we’re tracking.
Do you feel we need another defensive midfielder?
NUFC should be recruiting under 23s to develop for a year or two then challenge for a senior role. But if no-one is coming through and given Hayden is a want-away, then there needs to be an import of serious competition or Diame will continue to blow hot and cold.
