Journalist claims Mike Ashley is now ‘tempted’ as investment group prepare ‘huge’ takeover bid

According to middle-eastern journalist Mootaz Chehade, a Saudi investment company are currently preparing a ‘huge bid’ to buy Newcastle United.

The reporter from ‘Valel’ also claims that Mike Ashley is tempted to sell, however it goes without saying that this must be taken with a real pinch of salt.

We’ve had interest from Amanda Staveley last year and Sky claimed just last month that Peter Kenyon was aiming to find investors to fund a takeover bid of his own – and now its claimed that interest has emerged from Saudi Arabia.

The line ‘currently preparing a huge bid to buy Newcastle United’ is an exciting one, but talk that Ashley is now ‘tempted’ to sell is a case of I’ll believe it when I see it for me.

It was reported in the fall out from his recent meal out with Rafa that he would not be selling the club this season, yet the release of the Fans Forum minutes stated that the club WAS still up for sale.

It’s things like this that make it hard to know what to believe anymore – and I wouldn’t blame anyone who totally dismisses this link as a result.

We’ll keep our fingers crossed, but it’s fair to say we’re all living in hope more than expectation when it comes to Ashley’s long awaited exit and the potential arrival of new owners.

  1. Another non-story with a huge hint of deja vu. It was about October when Amanda Staveley and her group PCP made a bid for the club and negotiations dragged on into December at which point Ashley decided NOT to spend money in the January market. Fast forward to October 2018 and reports emerge about a huge Saudi bid for the club. Presumably with the due diligence requirements and checks through the clubs books will drag any offer through towards December.

Call me pessimistic but is this not another one of Ashley’s ploys to avoid spending money in this coming January transfer window, hoping that Rafa can get a few results together that will ultimately lift us to 17th in the table and safety for one more season?

I may be a doubting Thomas but I will only believe this one when every last scrap of SD advertising, billboards and shop signs have left SJP, never to be seen again.

  2. How we haven’t been bought out already is beyond me. A one city club, massive support each week and a beautiful stadium with a top class manager. Just invest and we will be a top 4 club within a couple of seasons
