Could Benitez be about to consider this surprise swap deal in January?

If the news that we have been scouting West Brom forward Oliver Burke is true, we can fully expect to hear talk of a potential swap deal involving him and NUFC loanee Dwight Gayle.

it was reported over the weekend that we had sent scouts to watch Burke last week, and it seems like the Baggies could let him go in January just 18 months after his £15m move from RB Leipzig.

If we come asking for him in the new year, you can almost guarantee that they will enquire about Gayle’s availability on a permanent basis – with him bagging an outstanding 8 goals and 5 assists in 11 Championship games so far this season.

I get the feeling Gayle still has a future at Newcastle, but if it’s another ‘sell before you buy window’ then Benitez may just be tempted to cash in – especially when West Brom may be willing to spend big on a striker that’s done so well since signing.

If we could sell Gayle and get in Burke plus cash this may be a deal that appeals to Ashley, however it would only suit Benitez if that extra money received was then spent on additional January reinforcements.

It’s all hypothetical, but it may just be one to watch in the new year if our interest in Burke is serious.

  1. You make no mention of the fact that Gayle was a complete failure in the Prem. That always attracts big money offers.

  2. Looks like Benitez has taken on Joe Kinnear as a scout.

Kinnear has recommended we take a look at Dwight Gayle at West Brom.
