With the January window edging closer and The Chronicle reporting that Rafa Benitez is on the lookout for up to FIVE new signings, we asked fans on Twitter which players they’d like to see NUFC sign this winter.
We asked fans to ‘keep it realistic’, however it’s fair to say some of the players mentioned may be way out of our budget unless Ashley changes his approach – with us failing to spend over £14m on a single signing since he arrived at the club over 10 years ago.
Here’s some of the fan responses to the following question asked by @BlackWhiteBarmy:

Some of these are realistic, however the last line is quite telling. Newcastle should be able to attract and afford the likes of Townsend, Rice, Loftus-Cheek, Gray and King, however ALL are at clubs showing more ambition than us – and ALL would cost beyond our current transfer record of £17m.
The slightly more realistic ones from this list are perhaps Charlie Austin (not getting games for Southampton), Danny Welbeck (not getting games for Arsenal) and Zinchenko – who’s also in need of game time after struggling to get into Man City’s side.
Unfortunately, this is where we’re at and what we’ve tended to do over the past few windows – with Rafa often forced to take a chance on players who are struggling at their current clubs.
The ‘Benitez’ and ‘new owner’ calls were quite apt really. Perhaps these would actually be the best ‘signings’ we could make.

What does it mean if Ashley gives over the cash in January? that he wouldn’t in the summer when we had the momentum to build, that was rafa reward for 10th place finish, it’s was justification for him that the squad was good enough and better than that the training ground no longer needs redevelopment that man cannot be trusted with anything, he won’t sell while we remain in the pl. RAFA should run for hills asap. I settle for relegation if it meant Ashley selling up.
