Rafa Benitez planning to secure these FIVE deals ahead of the January transfer window – Report

According to The Chronicle, Rafa Benitez has identified FIVE areas of his Newcastle squad that he needs to be improved ahead of the January window.

This includes an ‘offensive left back‘, cover in central midfield, a new number 10, a winger with pace and a proven goalscorer.

Minutes from the Fans Forum confirmed that ‘money was available to spend’, also confirming that they will be back in for a left back in January, however signing cover for Paul Dummett is only part of what Rafa Benitez will be hoping for ahead of the January window.

Recruitment meetings are believed to have been held and Ashley’s presence has suggested that he may be about to take a more hands on approach – so let’s hope Benitez is given the backing we desperately need.

Seven players were signed over the summer, but an injection of quality did not arrive.

For me, the key will be to sign proven players in attacking areas. A number 10 is desperately needed, but I can’t help but think Ashley will only sanction any of these deals if we’re in trouble and in NEED of new signings.

If we’ve turned around our form by the new year, will he really spend money on a side that look likely to stay up again?

He’s just happy to survive – although I do expect him to invest if we’re in trouble, but some may worry it’ll be too late then..
