According to Irish outlet ‘The 42’, Ciaran Clark has suffered an unknown injury while away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland – with him forced to pull out of their clash with Wales tonight as a result.
The story states that the FAI were unavailable to comment on exactly what injury Clark has sustained or the extent of it, however this certainly makes him an early doubt for Saturday’s game with Brighton.
Fortunately, Federico Fernandez returned from injury against Manchester Utd last time out, so this should not disrupt things too much, with the Argentinian likely to partner Jamaal Lascelles once again for this weekend’s crucial game at St James’ Park.
That being said, let’s hope this ‘injury’ isn’t a bad one, with him appearing to be Rafa’s third choice centre-back while new-boy Fabian Schar adjusts to life in England.
UPDATE – The club’s official website have now confirmed that he has suffered a thigh injury, with him set to be assessed when he returns to Tyneside later this week.
Defender Ciaran Clark will miss @FAIreland's game against @FAWales tonight after suffering a thigh injury in training ahead of the match in Dublin.
